On May 12th, 2008at about 2:28 pm local time, an earthquake measuring 7.9 hit central China. The earthquake was centered about 80 Km (50 Miles) West-North-West of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. The intensity of the quake was felt as far away as Beijing (about 1490 Km / 930 Miles) where eye witnesses reported that buildings shook for up to two minutes.
